Horncastle now bears the title of Lincolnshire's priciest petrol and diesel, averaging 155.5p and 162.5p per litre, respectively.
This finding is part of the 2023 Fuel Price Report by Cromwell Trucks in collaboration with Online Marketing Surgery, benchmarking local fuel costs.
The methodology involved researching Petrol Map’s directory to discover data for all areas of Lincolnshire, working out the figure by finding the average of all the petrol stations in each area. The live data obtained was up-to-date as of Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Following Horncastle as the most expensive in the top five for petrol are Spalding (154.4), Grantham (152.3), and Gainsborough and Lincoln (both 152.2).
Spilsby was revealed the cheapest in the county for petrol with a price of 141.9 per litre.

For diesel, Grantham is the second most expensive at 161.1p per litre, with the next three places in the top five occupied by Sleaford (160.6), Boston and Stamford (both 160.2)
Alford is the cheapest for diesel at a price of 151.7p per litre.

Lincolnshire’s average petrol price is 151.3p/litre, which is cheaper than Leicestershire (154.2), Derbyshire (152.6), Nottinghamshire (152.4), and Yorkshire (151.6).
Nationally, from the fuel price data for all the counties in England, Lincolnshire is the sixth cheapest. Only East Sussex, County Durham, Merseyside, Tyne and Wear, and Northumberland with lower petrol price averages.

The data was complied by Cromwell Trucks and their digital marketing agency Online Marketing Surgery.
Following the July 2022 peak in petrol prices, the market dropped categorically to around 143p per litre in July 2023 - but those lower prices were short-lived and soon began to rise. The reason for that price hike was the climbing cost of Brent Crude oil.
