LJ Fairburn Wins Farming Innovation Business of the Year at Lincolnshire Food and Farming Awards

LJ Fairburn secures Farming Innovation Business of the Year for pioneering egg production advancements

LJ Fairburn, a third-generation family business and a leading light in innovative farming, has been honoured as the Farming Innovation Business of the Year at the Lincolnshire Food and Farming Awards. Based in Burgh Le Marsh, Fairburn’s Eggs has been recognized for its pioneering approaches in the egg production sector.

In the past year, LJ Fairburn has made significant strides in advancing the egg farming industry. Their investment in a 2400m2 extension to their packing centre has transformed it into one of the UK's most technologically advanced hubs. The introduction of cutting-edge robotics has not only mitigated increasing costs but also enhanced efficiency and biosecurity. The facility now boasts the capacity to grade 382,000 eggs per hour while reducing plastic wrap consumption by over 12 tonnes annually.

Notably, the company launched an award-winning poultry ‘bed and breakfast’ partnership, an industry-first initiative offering crucial support to fellow egg producers amidst challenges like rising costs and Avian Influenza. This innovative model guarantees a return on investment for producers, providing them with pullets and feed without the associated costs.

As one of the UK’s largest independent egg producers and packers, LJ Fairburn's vertical integration allows for an exceptional field-to-fridge approach. They rear their birds, mill and develop feeds, and manage all aspects of egg production and distribution. This comprehensive control ensures high standards of animal welfare and sustainability, preparing the business for future generations of the Fairburn family.

LJ Fairburn's award as the Farming Innovation Business of the Year is a testament to their commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in farming, setting a benchmark for the industry.

The Lincolnshire Food and Farming Awards are organised by Stonebow Media, publishers of The Lincolnite, and MyLocal Lincolnshire. The event was generously sponsored by Barclays Eagle Labs, Duncan & Toplis, Visual Print & Design, Masons Rural, Fizzco and Sills & Betteridge.
